Wild Ginger Tuhau Pickle (Jeruk Tuhau)

 


I went to Tambunan Tamu on 28 July 2022 for the first time and I was attracted to the abundance of Tuhau being sold there. I told myself I must buy and make into "Jeruk Tuhau" Tuhau Pickle. When I was buying the Tuhau, a few Tambunan ladies came near to me and I asked them would I be successful and they gave me a few tips! That was super helpful and very friendly of them to teach me and gave me the confidence to make it !

I just went to YouTube and watched video and realised that it is really easy.

I bought RM6 for 3 huge bundles and I made like 6 medium size containers. 


1) Remove the thicker outer layers, only the soft parts are to be used.

2) Wash them and chop them into tiny stripes, pound them gently to get the fragrance and juice released. 

3) Chillie diced, garlic diced, red onion diced (optional), Salt, Brown Sugar, Rice Vinegar.


According to the Tambunan ladies, if we eat them immediately, we could just Kasturi juice and it be good. But to marinate it, it is better to use Lime Juice or Vinegar. I bought RM6 one large container that day and it tasted quite good until I tasted my own jeruk which is so much more superior !
