Vietnamese Pork Stock (Knorr Hạt Nêm)
Knorr Hạt Nêm Vietnam Pork Flavor is essentially a Vietnamese-style pork-flavoured seasoning granule. It is very versatile and can be used much like chicken stock powder or regular seasoning powder, but with a richer savoury/pork umami flavour.
🥢 How much to use
As a starting point, use about ½–1 teaspoon per 250–300 ml of liquid or per 2–3 portions of food, then taste and adjust. It is usually quite salty, so reduce other salt/soy sauce accordingly.
🍜 1. Soups & noodles
This is probably one of the best uses.
Add ½–1 tsp to chicken/pork/vegetable soup.
Add to noodle broth, wonton soup or pho-style broth.
For instant noodles, use less of the noodle seasoning packet and add a little Knorr pork seasoning instead.
Excellent with fish balls, pork balls, tofu and vegetables.
Quick broth:
Water + pork seasoning + garlic + white pepper + spring onion + a little sesame oil.
🥩 2. Marinating pork, chicken or beef
Mix:
1 tsp Knorr pork seasoning
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sugar/honey
1 tsp sesame oil
Garlic
White pepper
Marinate pork chops, minced pork, chicken thighs or beef for 30 minutes–overnight.
For Vietnamese-style grilled pork, add a little lemongrass and fish sauce.
🍳 3. Fried rice & fried noodles
Instead of adding lots of salt:
For 2 servings:
2 cups cooked rice
½–1 tsp Knorr pork seasoning
1–2 eggs
Garlic
Spring onion
Vegetables/meat of your choice
It gives fried rice a nice "restaurant savoury" flavour.
🥬 4. Stir-fried vegetables
Very useful for vegetables that need a little extra umami.
Try:
Broccoli + garlic
Cabbage + carrots
Kai lan + oyster sauce
Bok choy + mushrooms
Bean sprouts + garlic
For 2–3 servings, start with ¼–½ tsp, then taste.
Tip: Combine it with a little oyster sauce rather than using lots of seasoning.
🥟 5. Dumpling / wonton filling
For about 300–400 g minced pork, try:
1 tsp Knorr pork seasoning
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp sugar
Ginger
Garlic
Spring onion
White pepper
Mix thoroughly. It works particularly well for wontons, gyoza, steamed dumplings and Vietnamese pork rolls.
🍚 6. Congee / porridge
Add a small amount while cooking rice porridge.
For example:
Pork + mushroom congee
Rice
Minced pork
Shiitake mushrooms
Ginger
Spring onion
½–1 tsp Knorr pork seasoning
Finish with sesame oil and white pepper.
🥚 7. Eggs
A surprisingly good use!
For 2 eggs, add only about ⅛–¼ tsp seasoning before scrambling.
Try:
Egg + tomato + spring onion + a tiny bit of Knorr pork seasoning.
It gives the eggs a deeper savoury taste without needing much sauce.
🌶️ 8. Vietnamese-style dipping/marinating sauce
You can also combine it with:
Knorr pork seasoning + fish sauce + lime juice + sugar + garlic + chilli
This works beautifully with grilled pork, meatballs and rice noodles.
⭐ My favourite uses
If you have just bought a packet and want to experiment, I'd start with:
Vietnamese grilled pork
Pork wonton/dumpling filling
Fried rice
Vegetable stir-fry
Noodle soup
One important point: because Hạt Nêm is a seasoning rather than a pure pork stock, don't treat it like something you need to use by the tablespoon. Start small, taste, and add more. It can quickly make a dish too salty.
